Top Nuclear Official Slams Grossi for ‘Destructive Role’
TEHRAN – The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran on Wednesday hit out at Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi for the destructive role he has played on the peaceful nuclear program of the Islamic Republic.
Muhammad Eslami said Grossi failed to carry out his duties with regard to Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, adding his destructive role will be recorded in history.
Grossi’s procrastination, Eslami said, paved the way for the Israeli regime to advance its illegal objectives.
The official stressed that Iranians will not bow to any pressure and oppression.
Eslami’s remarks came as Grossi went on a belated damage control mode, confirming that there is no evidence Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapons program.
Speaking to CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour on Tuesday, Grossi acknowledged what Iran has repeatedly stated for years and the UN nuclear agency has confirmed in its reports.
“What we reported was that we did not have any proof of a systematic effort [by Iran] to move toward a nuclear weapon,” he said.
His reference to widespread criticism of the IAEA’s most recent quarterly report on Iran’s nuclear activities, which Iran dismissed as “politically motivated”, marks a climbdown from a position which Israel used to attack Iran’s military commanders, scientists and civilians.
The IAEA Board of Governors used the report as a pretext to pass a censure resolution against Iran, falsely accusing it of failing to comply with its nuclear obligations.
